WHAT WE'RE DOING
From Contamination to Restoration:
The Power of Mycoremediation

Mycoremediation is a bioremediation technique that harnesses the natural abilities of fungi to break down or absorb contaminants in soil, sediment and water. Fungi possess diverse capabilities to naturally transform harmful contaminants into less toxic substances through biological processes such as enzymatic breakdown, bioaccumulation and biodegradation. These processes enable fungi to metabolize certain contaminants, effectively turning them into energy or nutrient sources.

We have achieved notable success using innovative mycoremediation techniques to address some of the most persistent legacy contaminants – commonly found in areas with a long history of industrial activity – and emerging pollution, including complex organic molecules and heavy metals. The result of our mycoremediation process is fully decontaminated soil. With contaminated soil and sediment continuing to accumulate globally – often stockpiled due to the lack of effective remediation methods – the risks to human health, biodiversity, water quality, and overall ecosystem balance are severe. This underscores the urgent need for remediated soil to restore land usability and protect the environment.

Additionally, fungi play a crucial role in carbon sequestration. By incorporating mycoremediation, we not only decontaminate soil but also enhance its ability to store atmospheric carbon dioxide, effectively transforming the process into a carbon sink that helps mitigate climate change while restoring degraded land.
